Slavka came to Canada in May 1962 to join her husband who came in 1958. They worked hard and long hours as labourers and landlords to provide the best possible life for their family. They never travelled far when the family was young because work came first, but in their retirement years they spent a lot of time in Florida and loved vacationing in Cuba and Mexico. Gojko and Slavka were dedicated members of their Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Church and travelled many places with the Seniors Club. They were honoured to be Kumovi for the Church Slava in 1991. Slavka lived to receive a 50 year membership pin in 2017. In addition she worked diligently making noodles, her famous breskve and other fundraising efforts as member of Circle of Serbian Sisters “Kneginja Jelena, by whom she was also recognized as Kuma for one year. Our family wishes to thank the staff, especially PSW’s and the RN who took care of Baba from admission in March 2016 in the Gosfield neighbourhood at Village of St.Clair. If you so desire donations would be appreciated to Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Church or the Alzheimer Society. Due to restrictions on public gatherings a private service was held. When this pandemic ends a Celebration of Slavka’s life will be arranged as it was her desire to have her friends and family eat well and drink in her memory

Sadly missed by many kumovi, his extended family in Canada, USA, Lika and Serbia along with many friends.
Milan was born in the village of Srb, Lika in the former country of Yugoslavia. A veteran of WWII he fought for his freedom against The Axis and Communism. In 1945 he was exiled from his beloved country and left on foot landing in a DP camp in Eboli, Italy. His journey then took him through Europe, stopping in England in 1948, returning to a more normal life. In 1952 he immigrated to Canada, eventually meeting his true love Koviljka. Together they lovingly raised their son Jovan. As a proud Canadian he was able to embellish his Serbian roots and faith in the Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Church and community; which he loved and supported. He worked for Chrysler Canada and retired in 1991. He gained a daughter when Jovan married Patricia. Milan’s greatest joy came from his grandchildren, Luka and Sofia. A loving and adoring Deda, he was their biggest fan at their sporting events and enjoyed spoiling them every chance he had. He could be found 5 days a week at 6 am in the gym up until he was 90; only to continue his workouts from home the following years and eventually to his last days. For him excuses just didn’t exist. A true testament of a generation that is to be admired and learned from, not to be lost or forgotten. His last years were spent under the adoring care of his wife. Only love and the lord gave her the strength to ensure he would be able to enjoy his remaining years at home. Vjecnaja Pamjat, memory eternal. A special thanks to Father Vladimir Vranic for his spiritual guidance and support. Thank you to CCAC and all the amazing caregivers at ParaMed for their help. Milan’s last days were greatly eased by the attention and excellent care he received from the 3 South Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Y. Emara Center. Thank you to Dr Freeman, Dr.Meloche, Dr. Aoun, Dr Barisic, and Dr Drkulec and all the nurses for their dedication.
