This is an opportunity for 2 Summer Jobs for students between 15 and 30 years if age currently enrolled and returning to school in September. Each job is 12 weeks, Monday to Friday. Duties are outlined in the attached job description. ABOUT THE SERBIAN HERITAGE MUSEUM

The only recognized Serbian museum in Canada, the Serbian Heritage Museum of Windsor was established with the purpose of collecting, preserving, researching, exhibiting and interpreting a collection of artifacts and archival material related to Serbian history and culture, with a particular focus on the Serbian Community in Windsor, Ontario. Located at the Serbian Centre of Windsor, at 6770 Tecumseh Rd E, the Museum is open to the public, and through its emphasis on exhibits, publications, research and educational public programs, the Museum is dedicated to promoting multiculturalism in Canada and achieving the highest level of standards.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Records Management and Collections Processing Associates serve an integral role in the Museum – they help maintain and update the Museum’s collections and possessions, while also providing support to the day-to-day operations of the Museum.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Undertake all necessary activities for the management of records, including the conservation and maintenance of artifacts through documenting, photographing, recording and properly storing records and collections.
  • Maintain and add to the archives and records of collections available through the Museum website.
  • In collaboration with a committee of the Board of Directors, plan and design an engaging museum exhibit, which includes organizing the promotion of the exhibit unveiling via social media and other appropriate channels.
  • Provide educational guidance and informational assistance to Museum visitors, including those seeking to consult the archives and collections of the Museum.
  • Assist with sales in the Museum Gift Shop.
  • Add acquisitions and maintain existing possessions of the Research Library, through the Dewey Decimal System and the Library catalogue.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (University or College), studying Library Science, History, Information Technology, Arts, Education, or a related field.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Experience in creating publications, promotional material, and/or digital content.
  • Ability to interact with members of the public with a high degree of courtesy and professionalism.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications would be considered an asset:

  • Experience in project management.
  • Interest in museum and exhibition, cultural management, and public programs.
  • Experience in digitization and/or archival management.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of image file formats, various popular software products, and social media.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property and copyright issues.
  • Knowledge of standards and best practices relating to digital capture, description and preservation.
  • Interest in emerging and open source digital technologies.
